- TOOTSIE READING CELEBRATION
- (12 pictures)
- On November 5, 2009 we had a great Tootsie Reading Challenge celebration with our second grade classes and Mrs. Becher's ESE class. The goal was for these students to read at least 300 books in one month. Hats off to them for exceeding this goal and reading 509 books! During her presentation Tootsie the Clown shared ideas as to what good readers do and where good readers read. She performed some exciting magic tricks and created a dance called the "Tootsie shuffle." Special thanks to our students and our teachers: Mrs. Becher, Miss Bryant, Mrs. Benson, Mrs. Ingram and Mrs. Kurpiewski for participating in this very important project. Also, additional thank you's to our certified teacher assistants: Mrs. Gutierrez, Ms. Sprague and Mrs. Small for their creativity and time devoted to event activities. Extending many, many thanks to our parents who so generously donated paper goods and refreshments, too. Our website photos were taken by Mrs. Scarbrough and we are so pleased she stopped by to capture it all!!!
- Rodney Quick 5th Annual Baseball Classic
- (107 pictures)
- In 2005, a Boy Scout offered to start a baseball league at Bennett as part of his Eagle Project. After getting dondations of thousands of dollars in equipment, coaches Shannon Sommers & Anji Scarbrough formed the teams from 5th graders. They were taught all of the skills necessary to play an organized game. It was such a success that we are now on year 5, naming our annual game after Rodney Quick, a player from 2006 who died of a rare form of brain cancer in 2008.
